How to Get a Replacement Debit Card from Chase?
The Federal Trade Commission filed 13 million complaints regarding fraud and identity theft in the four-year period between 2012 and 2016. This is staggering, and they’ve reported that those numbers are expected to continue to increase.
Whether you need to order a replacement card because your card was stolen and used without your knowledge or simply because you’ve misplaced (and hopefully have had it deactivated!), it’s actually quite easy to order a replacement debit card from Chase.
What to Do If You Lose Your Chase Debit Card?
First thing’s first, you’re going to want to contact the bank and freeze your account. It doesn’t matter if your debit card was stolen or if you simply lost it. If you don’t have it, it means that somebody else might, and that’s putting you at risk of having someone make fraudulent charges on the account.
Depending on the type of card you’ve lost, you’ll call one of two numbers.
If you lose your Chase credit card: Call Chase at 1-800-432-3117. Or, go to chase.com/customerservice for call center hours and bank operating hours near you.
If you lose your Chase debit card: Call Chase at 1-800-935-9935.
You’ll need to have your Chase banking account information on hand along with your personal information such as your security number, the security code of your debit card, or perhaps even the PIN number so that they can verify you’re the account owner.
Check Your Chase Account History
Depending on who you speak with, the Chase customer service attendant might ask you about recent charges on your account. If they don’t, it’s important to go back in and check your Chase account history.
Make sure that there aren’t any unauthorized charges on the account that you didn’t make. If there are, be sure to write down or make note of the charges, including the amount of the charge, the date, and the merchant name.
While you’re looking at your Chase bank account information, it’s a good time to go ahead and freeze your account. How do you freeze a Chase bank account?
- Log into the Chase online banking portal and find your account name and information.
- Click on the “. . .” button under the card you want to freeze. You will see a menu of options.
- Select “Lock/Unlock Your Card.”
- Click to toggle this on or off.
Leave your account locked until you’ve been able to get in touch with the bank to let them know what’s going on. Because you don’t have a Chase debit card to use at the moment anyway, it doesn’t need to be unfrozen for the time being.
How to Order a Replacement Debit Card from Chase
Ordering a replacement debit card from Chase is actually quite easy. All you have to do is to log into your Chase.com account or access your account via the Chase Mobile Banking app.
Chase has a pretty helpful video you can watch if you need visual help. However, the steps are pretty easy to follow:
- Tap the card you want to replace or tap on the checking account that’s connected to your debit card.
- Scroll down until you find “Replace a Lost or Damaged Card.”
- Choose the card you want to replace and fill out a reason for the replacement.
- Review your request and then hit submit!
Your replacement debit card from Chase should arrive within 3-5 business days. Chase notes that if you haven’t received your card within seven days, you’ll want to log into your account and choose “Didn’t Receive Card” under your request to let them know.
Are There Fees for a Chase Debit Card Replacement?
Chase charges monthly fees for quite a few things, including overdraft fees, wire transfer fees, and even monthly maintenance fees for certain accounts. But, are there any fees for ordering a Chase debit card replacement?
Thankfully, no! There is no fee for a Chase replacement card.
However, there is a $5 fee for a rush replacement. This rush replacement card should arrive within two business days, compared to the standard 3-5 business days for a regular Chase replacement debit card.
