This Ron Howard film is delightfully whimsical and will transport you straight to Whoville where you’re able to truly feel the Christmas spirit. Not a fan of the 2001 film? 2. Holidate
If you’re tired of the same old Christmas movies every year, give Holidate a try. It’s just been released on Netflix for streaming and feature Emma Roberts as a busy millennial business owner who’s tired of being single for holiday events. The solution? Find another single thirty-something who’s available as a stand-in date for holiday gatherings and events. It’s somewhat crude and a very classic rom-com, but it’ll do the trick if you’re looking for Christmas movies on Netflix that don’t require tons of emotional investment.
3. Christmas on the Square
Dolly Parton as an angel? Um, yes please, we’re totally in. Christmas on the Square is another 2020 Christmas movie from Netflix that features small-town charm, 14 original songs, and Christine Baranski (who also happened to star in How the Grinch Stole Christmas) as the big-city antagonist (okay, yes, it’s somewhat predictable in its setup). Dolly Parton stars as a beautiful, dazzling Christmas angel that’ll make you feel all warm and fuzzy inside, which is, well, much needed after the year we’ve all had.
4. Klaus
In the mood for an animated Christmas movie this holiday season? Check out the 2019 film Klaus. It follows a young postman who gets sent to a frozen town near the North Pole. While there, he encounters Mr. Klaus (Santa Claus, of course), a recluse who used to make toys. After convincing him that he’ll take care of the delivery, the postman teams up with Mr. Klaus in the hopes of turning Christmas around. It’s fun, lighthearted, and actually pretty funny (yes, even for adults).
5. A Very Murray Christmas
Starring Bill Murray, directed by Sofia Coppola, this holiday special will bring a dose of jazzy cheer to any home. It’s crafted in the style of a classic holiday music special (literally, it’s written into the story) featuring Bill Murray as the somewhat lonely TV host stuck in New York during a winter snowstorm. Enjoy following along as you’re treated to guest appearances and performances by well-known actors such as George Clooney, Miley Cyrus, Amy Poehler, Michael Cera, and more.
6. Jingle Jangle: A Christmas Journey
If the holidays are all about the music for you, check out this year’s newest Netflix Christmas movie Jingle Jangle: A Christmas Journey. Forest Whitaker stars as an ex-toymaker eager to find hope during the holiday season. Joined by his granddaughter and quite a few lavish musical numbers, there’s no doubt that he finds his holiday magic, and you will too. Plus, the costume design is pretty out of this world.
7. The Holiday
Who doesn’t love a bit of Jude Law romance around the holidays? This classic Christmas movie stars Kate Winslet, Cameron Diaz, Jude Law, and Jack Black as four singles in search of something more. Winslet and Diaz switch homes for the holidays and spend their Christmas in England and Los Angeles for a change of pace. Romance and drama ensue and, as you might expect, people fall lin love to the backdrop of the Hollywood Hills and the snowy English countryside.
8. The Nutcracker and the Four Realms
Did you know that in the world of The Nutcracker, there are four realms? The Land of Sweets, the Land of Snowflakes, the Land of Flowers, and the Fourth Realm, sometimes called The Land of Amusements. In this 2018 Christmas movie, you’ll get to explore each of the four realms while being dazzled and delighted by the sounds of the famous Nutcracker ballet.
9. The Christmas Chronicles
The Christmas Chronicles was a largely unexpected Christmas hit, quickly becoming one of the most popular Christmas movies on Netflix in 2018. This year, the sequel was released, meaning that you can enjoy a holiday-themed double-feature whenever you want. The storyline follows the antics of teenagers alongside Santa Claus (played by Kurt Russell). It’s light and fun to watch and as an added plus, Goldie Hawn plays Mrs. Claus.
10. Sugar Rush Christmas
We’re cheating a bit with this one, but it’s one of the best things to watch on Netflix in 2020, we promise. This cooking series follows amateur bakers and treat makers as they show off their skills in holiday-themed confection competitions. Each team is made up of two professional culinary artists and they’re tasked with creating a cupcake, a confection, and, if they’re lucky enough to make it to the final round, a massive Christmas-themed cake. It’s extremely addicting, ensuring that once you watch the first episode, you’ll be hooked.
