Where Do You Find Mushrooms in Animal Crossing: New Horizons?
So, first thing’s first - where do you even find mushrooms in the new Switch game Animal Crossing: New Horizons? Like previous versions of the game, mushrooms in New Horizons are available during mushroom season, which is in November in the Northern hemisphere and in May for the Southern hemisphere.
However, a few things are different in New Horizons regarding mushrooms. Previously, if you played New Leaf, you were required to have a perfect town rating in order to spawn rare mushrooms. In New Horizons, that’s not a requirement. In this version of the game, mushrooms are crafting materials that you can use in DIY Recipes and can be found around the island.
More specifically, mushrooms are seasonal crafting materials that you only find during autumn. Other examples of seasonal crafting materials include eggs that you can find during the springtime, a rare summer shell during the summer season, and snowflakes and ornaments during the winter months.
What Are The Different Types of Mushrooms in Animal Crossing: New Horizons?
As mentioned, there are five different types of mushrooms you can find and use in the new version of Animal Crossing. And, they tend to grow near Hardwood Trees. Here’s where to find each of the five different mushrooms in New Horizons.

As mentioned, mushrooms are now used as crafting materials for DIY recipes in Animal Crossing: New Horizons. This means that if you walk around your island to pick weeds, they won’t just disappear when you pick them, you’ll be able to put them in your pocket to save for recipes. And, you’ll find that you just might need them when it comes time to make DIY mushroom recipes in New Horizons.
Where do you find DIY mushroom recipes? You have to shoot down balloons with your slingshot to find them. And, you have to find them all before the mushrooms stop growing for the season (so, before winter comes).
