Bored during self-isolation? You’re not alone. As states continue to extend their stay at home orders, more and more people are finding it increasingly difficult to stave off boredom and anxiety.
Lucky for you, we’ve got something that those who lived through the infamous 1918 pandemic didn’t have: Netflix. With thousands of fantastic movies and series right at your fingertips, the only bad thing about streaming Netflix during the quarantine is figuring out what to watch first.
The best shows on Netflix are pretty addicting, so we’re here to help you make sense of the ones that are so binge-worthy that you won’t even feel guilty about finishing the entire series in a day or two (nobody’s judging).
Parks and Recreation follows mid-level bureaucrat Leslie Knope as she navigates the world of working in an Indiana Parks and Recreation Department. She teams up with gal-pal Ann Perkins and faces challenges along with Tom and the iconic Ron Swanson. The show's light-hearted and totally binge-worthy. Plus, there are seven whole seasons and they're all on Netflix right now.
The Good Place is about as bright and cheery as it gets. Eleanor Shellstrop's adventures in the afterlife are comical and fun. Kristen Bell's humor alongside her castmates' (particularly Ted Danson) is a treat to watch. And, with 37 total episodes on Netflix right now, each coming in at about 22 minutes, that means you'll have over 13.5 hours of The Good Place to watch. If that doesn't qualify it as one of the most binge-worthy shows on Netflix then we don't know what does.
If you've never binge-watched The Office then now is the time. If you're in the US, watch the US version. And, if you're in the UK, watch the UK version. It's a mockumentary sitcom television series that depicts the everyday lives of office employees in the Scranton, Pennsylvania. And, the sheer simplicity and hilarity of it all will have you aching to get back to your coworkers after this is all over. Bet you thought you'd never say that, did you?
As one of the most successful Netflix series to ever exist (pre-Tiger King), Stranger Things is a great series to stream during self-isolation if you haven’t already seen it. It’s got everything you’re looking for out of a great Netflix series: action, adventure, fantasy, humor, and even a throwback to the 1980s when life seemed so much easier. As an added plus, each episode is just over 50 minutes long, making it a great series for streaming if you’re interested in truly getting stuck into your couch for a while.
You know when something's got seven seasons that it's gotta be one of the most binge-worthy TV shows on Netflix. And, that's pretty much the case with New Girl, which fans all over the world have fallen in love with since it debuted in 2011. It follows the awkward but lovable Jess who moves in with three single guys after a breakup. It's witty, light yet just dramatic enough to keep you entertained.
Interested in streaming a series that’ll keep you on the edge of your seat? If you haven’t watched You on Netflix then now might be the time to do so, simply to stay ahead of the pop culture curves. According to Netflix, the series follows Joe, a “dangerously charming, intensely obsessive young man who goes to extreme measures to insert himself into the lives of those he is transfixed by.” Yep, it’s as creepy as it sounds. Yet, at the same time, it’s so irresistible.
El Camino might not be one of the best movies on Netflix, but the show that inspired it is easily one of the best TV series of all time. Breaking Bad is not only a show that’ll reel you in and keep you on the edge of your seat as you follow Walter White and Jesse Pinkman as they navigate the underside of the drug world, but it’s one of the most binge-worthy shows out that. With five seasons in total (and all of them on Netflix), you’ve got 62 hours of prime content to stream for when you’re feeling super bored.
If you’re looking for something to watch on Netflix that’ll keep you entertained for weeks and weeks, definitely check out Grey’s Anatomy. There are 15 seasons on Netflix, providing you with plenty of time to really get to know Meredith Grey, McSteamy, and all of the other cast members that made this ABC show a hit. It’s particularly great for those interested in an emotional series that’ll definitely eventually require you to grab a tissue or two.
Throw it all the way back to the 1960s and indulge in a happier time (well, okay, maybe not in the context of this show) when the world of Man Men actually existed. This hit show is the best self-isolation TV show for viewers interested in the impressive writing on top of the juicy drama. Don Draper as the anti-hero is flawless and we could all use a little more Peggy Olson energy in our lives right now.
We can’t talk about the best Netflix series to stream during self-isolation without mentioning the Tiger King himself, Joe Exotic. Tiger King is a seven-episode true crime docu-series (plus another episode that’s just dropped) that includes murder, mayhem and lots of madness. It’s hard to describe just what the docu-series is about. Yes, there are tigers. But, it’s so much more than that. Did you really self-isolate during the pandemic of 2020 if you didn’t watch Tiger King?
